Physics of a Sports Video: Archery
Project:
We had to find all the physics in a certain sports movement. Our group did archery. We calculated all the physics with certain formulas. Before we started to film our group planned out a script and storyboard. For our film all of the shots were normal right-handed shots. The shots were fired from ten meters away from the target. It took us many days to shoot and put the whole video together. In the end the project was really fun.
Reflection:
I enjoyed many parts of this project. I liked the idea of the project. Working together with new people I usually would not talk to was fun. I think our group worked well together. We all communicated well with telling our ideas. I learned that I should try to give more ideas to our group. Also, that I should plan more, than rather just try things before really planning. It was challenging to try to find all the math with a sport with such difficult numbers to calculate. It was hard to try to look up a lot of measurements because with our resources we could not calculate them by ourselves. I could work on paying more attention to what we are working on. I could improve on time management because we spent a lot of time on videoing parts we did not even use. Over all I think our video came out really good.
Concepts:
Velocity- v=d/t, how far an object goes in a certain time. While shooting the arrow, the arrow has a certain velocity.
Acceleration- a=change in velocity/ change in time, how an objects rate changes in a motion.
Projectile Motion- horizontal velocity=d/t, vertical velocity= changes in arc and acceleration due to gravity, both velocities do
another. While shooting the arrow it has both a vertical velocity and horizontal velocity.
Impulse- impulse= mv/t, how much force is put on the object. While hitting the target the arrow put a force on the target.
Momentum- momentum= mv, how much energy an object has. Once the arrow is released from the bow it has momentum.
Potential Energy- 1/2mv^2, how much n=energy it has in a certain position. When pulling back the string on the bow it uses spring
potential energy.
Kinetic Energy- equal to the potential energy, how much energy it has caused by motion. During the flight of the arrow it has kinetic energy.
